ACCIPITRIDAE

*Jerdon's Baza Aviceda jerdoni
Excellent views of one highly co-operative adult in the Tongoa area Lore Lindu NP

*Barred Honey Buzzard Pernis celebensis
Quite scarce; one in flight in the Dongi Dongi area of Lore Lindu NP. An adult perched along the Matayangan Rd (near Bogani Nani Wartabone NP) finally gave us the view we wanted. Another sighting in the same area the following day.

*Black Kite Milvus migrans
One only, along the coast trail in Tangkoko NP

*Brahimy Kite Haliastur indus
Quite a few sightings in the Tangkoko, Palu, Toraut areas, although not a common bird

*White-bellied Sea-eagle Haliaeetus leucogaster
Confusion initially prevailed due to our Tangkoko guide, Freddie, calling a juvenile W-b S-e, an Osprey. A pair seen with a large juvenile in the nest at Tangkoko NP.

*Sulawesi Serpent Eagle Spilornis rufipectus
Seemingly most common and widespread raptor in Sulawesi; seen in or around the three national parks visited. Up to four birds seen in a day, mostly in pairs, some with immatures, quite vocal. Excellent views in the scope of perched adult and immatures. A stunning bird.

*Spotted Harrier Circus assimilis
One only seen, cruising over heavy forest at high elevation along Anaso Rd, Lore Lindu N.P. The back was grey as in the adult in Australia but the underside of the body appeared pale in color as in immatures in Australia. Odd that the Sulawesi contains the only population of Spotted Harriers outside of Australia. Surely a candidate for a split!

*Sulawesi Goshawk Accipitergriseiceps
What a delightful bird; excellent views in the scope of a perched adult near Kamarora HQ, Lore Lindu NP

*Spot-tailed Goshawk Accipiter trinotatus
On hearing an unidentified call that sounded Rail-like we managed to call up this beauty along the Anaso Rd, Lore Lindu NP. Excellent scope views. Also calling in Tangkoko NP (Freddy).

*Small Sparrowhawk Accipiter nanus
Great scope views of a perched adult along the Tongoa Rd near Kamarora HQ,
Lore Lindu NP; seen by almost everyone.

*Rufous-bellied Eagle Hieraaetus kienerii
Adult and immature cruising over Kamorora HQ and at least 4 (3 adult, 1 immature) along Matayangan Rd, Bogani Nani Wartabone N P; excellent views of a perched adult here, one of the more distinctive of Sulawesi's raptors, with dark hood, white throat and dark breast.

*Sulawesi Hawk-Eagle Spizaetus lanceolatus
Finally caught up with this species on the last few days of the trip. Two nicely perched adults along Matayangan Rd. The fine barring on legs and lower breast make this a handsome bird. The jizz in flight appears similar to the Serpent Eagle.

FALCONIDAE

*Spotted Kestrel Falco moluccensis
Not common, a few seen en route to the three National Parks and one on Mantehage Island. Flies with more rapid wing-beats than Nankeen Kestrel and feeds in different ways. En route to Lore Lindu NP, we saw an adult bird remove a young munia from a nest in a coconut palm.

*Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus
One seen briefly in Bogani Nani Wartabone NP near Toraut
